History

Suzuka International University (SIU) was founded on April 1st, 1994 with a Department of International Relations under a Faculty of International Studies, by request and with the support of Suzuka City , in conjunction with the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Kyoei Gakuen, founded in 1913.

A Graduate School of International Studies, Master's program in International Society, and a Department of Intercultural Studies opened on April 1st, 1998. The Department of Tourism and Hospitality opened in 2001 and the English Department opened in 2002.

Later, Departments of International Relations, Intercultural Studies and English Department were reorganized under a Department of International Studies. Today, SIU is comprised of two departments, the Department of International Studies and the Department of Tourism and Hospitality.

The fundamental philosophy of SIU is to educate students to become active participants in the global economy. SIU wishes to educate students to truly develop cross-cultural sensitivity, while understanding the traditional values of Japanese culture, based on Kyoei Gakuen's founder's coined creed, "To be a sincere, reliable, and truly internationally-aware person," both in Japan and abroad.
